In the words of Chris Ledoux
You'll ride a black tornado, 'cross the western sky.
Rope an ole blue northern, and milk it til it's dry.
Bull dawg the Mississippi, and pin her ears down flat...
Long before you take this cowboys hat...
For 32 years I have worn cowboy hats and even though I have heard this
song and others like them and heard not to touch a man's hat. I
had not ever experienced a stranger messing with my hat.
Girlfriends and fiends sure but, never a stranger.
That was until last Saturday, My fiancée and I had went to the
largest local dance club which plays a good mix of country and
dance. I had went up to the bar to get us a couple of
drinks and it happened. A young man behind me in line started to
pull my hat off my head and asked if he could see it for a
minute. This set off a fire in me that I had never experienced
over a inanimate object. I said "NO I DON'T THINK SO" as I placed
my hat back on my head and promptly spun to face him. He quickly
said sorry and turned and left. I'm glad that he did, the
instantaneous anger that he had touched off quickly dissipated and all
was good again.
I though about this a little today and I have come to the conclusion
that a stranger messing with a mans hat no matter whether it's a cowboy
hat, Fedora, Bowler , outback style or whatever is akin to a stranger
walking up and trying to pick up your wife/girlfriend or just plopping
down in your pride and joy car/motorcycle.
Hats are personal they are broke in to fit a man's head perfectly and
the shape of the crown and brim are a personal choice. I am a
leather craftsman so I even make my own hat bands.
I guess I typed all this to say guys please for your own sake leave a
guys hat alone, they are not trinkets that can be picked up at any
store they are part of the man who wears them.
I think touching someone's hat is a bit like "putting your hands on them." It's a sign of disrespect and is often seen as an act of aggression.
You don't mess with a man's hat. Not without asking first. I thought everybody knew that...
Only ever happened once. The person reached for it while I was facing him. I knocked his hand away and said "I wouldn't"! He didn't. Thank god because this guy was BIG!
I'll explain all that in time just let me have a little time to get the wording right.
to put it quick I have had to fight for my daughter and that has taken most all of my resources and time.
The engagement is awesome and hopefully soon you'll all get to read some of her thoughts!
WE have pictures scheduled this weekend and we'll talk about posting one.
Oh, and by the way, thanks for the warm welcome back!
Aww, TasT....you know that I luvs ya and am glad to see you again!
I'm also glad to hear that you're finally happy....
We walked out of a store one time to find a guy sitting on my friend's bike. It wasn't a Harley, or any kind of classic, but it was nice...
My friend looked at the schlub and asked him if he was married... he said "yeah, why".. "How pissed would you be if you walked out of a store and found me on your wife?"
Glad to be back, things are still a little stressful, but everything should be pretty much undercontrol in the next few weeks....
And YES I am Happy!
Darn near the same thing isn't it!
